MADE51 - UNHCR Crafts Exhibition (8 Nov. 2018)

Recently I attended the MADE51 crafts exhibition which was held at the UNHCR foyer in Geneva, Switzerland on the 8th and 9th November 2018.

With many UNHCR staff present, it was an excellent and well organised event coordinated by UNHCR's Artisan Value Chain Expert, Ms. Heidi Christ who was well praised by the Deputy High Commissioner Ms. Kelly Clements for her efforts in creating this successful event and supporting refugees with an income stream.

The crafts produced by refugees were of high quality and the majority of which were available for sale.

This led to  flurry of UNHCR staff purchasing many of the products on offer as was evidenced by a very long que that went from the basement, up the stairs and to the entrance of the cafeteria. Filled with people carrying arm loads of crafts in preparation for the Christmas gift giving season.

It must not be forgotten what this event is all about - i.e. supporting those that are most vulnerable with a productive livelihood as was indicated by the posters located around the exhibition.

It was an excellent cause related marketing activity and hats-off to the UNHCR Livelihoods Unit in making it all happen and working tirelessly in supporting refugees with a livelihood - through out the world. Well done!
